DanceXchange and sampad are working in partnership to set up a new Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) for young people aged 11 – 18 who demonstrate exceptional potential in dance. This CAT will be the first in the UK to offer two strands of training: Contemporary dance training for students from across the West Midlands, and South Asian dance training for students from across the UK. The course content will embrace Contemporary, Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance techniques in the two strands alongside performance studies, body conditioning, choreographic workshops and classes led by visiting artists.

The Contemporary strand will operate on Sundays during term time at DanceXchange, while the South Asian strand will operate during intensive half term residencies. All dancers will come together to work on summer intensives led by professional artists. It is expected that dance training will be continued at a local level after school, supported by bursaries from the scheme. The scheme is funded and supported nationally by the Department for Children, Schools and Families through the Music and Dance Scheme.

The pilot programme will start in January 2009 with auditions in September – October 2008. For further information please contact Louise James, Programme Manager on 0121 689 1096 or via louise.james@dancexchange.org.uk
